BIOGRAPHY

Fernanda Santanna is a singer and songwriter for the new generation of Brazilian artists. She was born in the interior of Minas Gerais, in the city of Barbacena, where she began her career. Studied at ‘Bituca - University of Popular Music’.

Fernanda Santanna is a singer and songwriter of the new generation of Brazilian artists, mixing essential references from Brazil in her music. Her striking interpretations and her powerful singing refer to great female personalities in Brazilian music, among them her greatest reference, Elis Regina.

She was born in the countryside of Minas Gerais, in the city of Barbacena, where he began her career. She graduated in singing from ‘Bituca – Universidade de Música Popular’, a school sponsored by Milton Nascimento.

Participated in the following projects: Sesc Samba and Chorinho na Praça with their show Brasilidade; Tom 90, honoring the conductor Tom Jobim, alongside singers such as Cris Dellano, Áurea Martins and Leila Maria, whose musical direction was by drummer Teo Lima; Benção Baden, in homage to the guitarist Baden Powell, with the participation of Marcell Powell and musical direction by the pianist Dudu Viana; Viva Elis, celebrating Elis Regina's 70th birthday, at Beco das Garrafas; He sang with the band Bossa Rio at the invitation of drummer Teo Lima, along with musicians Marco Brito, Pedro Moraes, Humberto Mirabelli and José Arimatéa. Recorded Homenagem ao Malandro(Chico Buarque) and Eu, hein Rosa (JoãoNogueira/Paulo César Pinheiro), for the final of the Dança dos Famosos segment, from the Domingão do Faustão program, shown on TV Globo. (2015)

Recorded a reinterpretation of the song Vento de Maio (Telo Borges/Márcio Borges), for the first compilation of Bar MPB, released by Universal Music. Project directed by producer Bruno Galvão. (2015)

Was invited by singer and songwriter Renato Teixeira to sing in his show at Teatro Caixa Cultural, Rio de Janeiro/RJ. (2015)

Participated in the composition and recording of the single “Around the World”, by the German band Yellow Cap, with the participation of singer, songwriter and rapper Lurdez da Luz and production by Vitor Rice. (2016)

Was invited by violinist Guilherme Pimenta to sing at the opening of Baile do Almeidinha (Hamilton de Holanda), at Circo Voador. (2016)

Released her first authorial album, Brasilidade, with musical production by César Santos. The album had the special participation of Samuel Rosa, vocalist of the band Skank and was recorded by the musicians: Will Magalhães, Licinho Percussão, Max Dias, Dudu Viana, Gastão Villeroy, Nema Antunes, Altair Martins, Diogo Gomes, Marlon Sette, Rodrigo Revelles , Gabriel Grossi, Baby Kramer and St. Petersburg Studio Orchestra (Russia). She won three awards (best performer, best song and best band) at the Ziembinsk Theater Music Festival, in Rio de Janeiro/RJ. (2018)

Had her song “Trilhos da Vida” released in the compilation of the Prêmio de Música das Minas Gerais 2018 festival, alongside artists such as Marina Sena (A Outra Banda da Lua).

Was awarded in the Cine Furnas Cultural public notice, by the Brazilian company Furnas Centrais Elétricas, for holding the launch show of her album Brasilidade. (2018)

Participated in the CD release tour The Brazilian Álbum by Trio Elf (Germany) with Brazilian percussionist Marco Lobo, playing shows in Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, in places such as: Triboz (RJ), Consulado Alemão (RJ), ), Jazz nos Fundos (SP) and Bituca - University of Popular Music (MG). Participated in the project “New Talents of Music”, promoted by the Firjan/Sesi de Cultura system in Rio de Janeiro/RJ, alongside artists from the new scene such as: Juliana Linhares (Pietá), Luísa Lacerda, Thiago Amud, Victor Mus, Pedro Man, among others. (2019)

Toured Europe with shows in Germany: World Music Festival Horizonte (Koblenz); Palazzo Festival (Regensburg); Unterfahrt Jazz Club (Munich); in the Netherlands: Pllek (Amsterdam); and in Italy: in the cities of Barletta, Taranto, Matera, Mottola, Trani, Altamura, San Vito Dei Normanni; Monopoli and Lecce. Was invited by the Bahian percussionist Bóka Reis to join his Dendê project, which carries out an in-depth research on the music of the Bahian Afro blocks and the entire tambourine culture, where she sings along with the percussionists Bruno Bragança, Lu Borges, Luiz Gabriel, Ferran Tamarit and guitarist Will Magalhães.(2019)

Performed at "Jazz B" and at Al Janiah, in São Paulo/SP. (2019)

Recorded a live video of the song Dona do Mar, a track from her album Brasilidade, by composers Gastão Villeroy and César Miranda, for the Sofar Sounds RJ project. (2019)

Participated in shows with the duo Yamí, formed by musicians Marco Lobo and Federico Puppi, with the same project she recorded the point Mamãe Oxum with the participation of Cameroonian singer Njame Sitson, a single released on all streaming platforms. (2019)

Her song 'No Colo da Serra' was the opening soundtrack of the thousandth episode 'Lar, doce lar', from the program Caldeirão do Huck, shown by Rede Globo. (2019)

Sang in one of the biggest carnival blocks in Brazil, Bangalafumenga, alongside composers Rodrigo Maranhão, Fofão de Serrinha and Serjão Loroza, commanding a show for half a million people at Aterro do Flamengo, Rio de Janeiro/RJ. (2020)

Performed her show Brasilidade in the project L'eco Som Jazz Sessions, conceived by renowned sound engineer Leco Possolo and recorded at Estúdio Eco Som. (2020)
He recorded the project Ensaio Aberto, at the invitation of producer Juan Viana, at 39 D Studios, in Rio de Janeiro. (2020).

Participated in internet festivals during the COVID-19 Pandemic period, such as: Ziriguidum (BR); Rebel Vive (BR); Stay Zusammen (DE/BR); From the House (IT); In Career (BR), among others (2020/2021).

Recorded a musical series with Yamí, a duo formed by musicians Marco Lobo and Federico Puppi, recorded at the renowned studio Toca do Bandido, in Rio de Janeiro, with the participation of singer Rita Benedito and Cameroonian singer Njame Sitson, through Lei Aldir Blanc, in Cultural Resumption / RJ. Was invited by Instituto Curupira (Barbacena/MG), to be a curator and judge for the 7th edition of the National Festival of Free Popular Music, online. (2021)

Was invited to integrate the musical attractions of the Cataguajazz Festival, online edition, in the women in jazz, with the show Fernanda Santanna invites Will Magalhães Trio. (2021)

Was classified to participate in the II Music Festival of the Clube da Esquina Museum Bar, with her song “Bem Aventurados” and with the reinterpretation of the song “O Sal da Terra” by Beto Guedes and Ronaldo Bastos. (2021)

 

Had her song Flor da Paixão, recorded and released by the forró band Flor de Minas. (2021)

Recorded a special participation in the album Impressões by guitarist and composer from Minas Gerais, Will Magalhães, an album that also had the special participation of Mestrinho. (2021)

Recorded the opening soundtrack for the movie Pokemon - Segredos da Selva, Brazilian version, Netflix. (2021)

Performed the show “Saudade do Brasil” in honor of Elis Regina at the FUNARJ Live Music Award.(2022)
